Monterey Races, Part 2, aka The GTO Page
The Ferrari GTO. It stands for Gran Tourisimo Omologato, or homologated grand touring car. Just a fancy word for a racing class where the factory had to build a certain (small) number of them, more than needed for racing, in order to qualify. Many feel the GTO is the most beautiful, most quintessential Ferrari. It's hard to argue with them, but at this event, there were so many of them that they were almost pests! A GTO, good or otherwise, will set you back a million dollars or more. I'll bet there were fifteen or twenty at these races. That's a spicy meatball!
