Family Room
The Family Room incorporates an extensive entertainment center that is well integrated with the fireplace. Cabinetry is fiddle back maple, finely figured throughout.
All A/V equipment is rack mounted, and the rack comes out on rails for easy access. Left, right, and center channels are Bohlender-Grabener Radia speakers, which are ribbon speakers. The subwoofer below the rack is a REL. Surround speakers are by Triad, and are mounted in the ceiling. The system uses a Proceed surround processor and 5-channel amplifier. Visible immediately below the proceed are the amplifiers used for whole-house audio distribution, such as the outdoor speakers.
Bookshelves provide convenient storage for cookbooks, as the kitchen is nearby.
An AMX touchpanel near the couch controls the whole system.
The wrap-around couch table contains cabinets for the kid's upstairs toys. A Nottebohm sculpture occupies center stage along with some dichroic art glass and the art deco style table lamps. The floor is limestone without carpet or rug as this is the zone where most spills occur.
Views and natural light are quite good here. Today the fog is hanging near the coast, but we have sunlight overhead.
The centerpiece Nottebohm is spectacular, and very unusual. The artist produces very few sculptures, prefering wall paintings.
Dichroic art glass by Toland Sand and others catches the early afternoon sunbeams and projects tiny rainbows on the ceiling.
