Callidus July 2002 Europe Trip, Bari, Italy

Bari is a city on the Adriatic coast of Italy. During WWII, it was the headquarters of the 15th Air Force, whose B-24 bombers ranged over a great deal of Southern and Eastern Europe. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori, which was conveniently located and fairly nice. It's a very modern sort of hotel, right down to the decor and "smart building" features where the floor lights are off until the elevator door opens.

Most of these pictures are taken in this medieval part of Bari...

Reed with our gracious hosts, Silvia and Alberto. They're by the cathedral in the medieval part of Bari...

Ornate, but very weathered with age...

There are always people sitting around and enjoying the time in the old parts of Italy. The kids are playing some kind of game with a soccer ball back in that little area...

The square in front of the church. The whole thing is walled for defensive purposes...

This medieval part of Bari is still being restored. It had been a slum up until the mayor decided to renovate.

Kids at play, woman sitting and talking, this is what Italy is all about...

Some ancient ruins are under glass here. They weren't marked, so I don't know what they were...

Most of the kids around were playing with soccer balls...

The old and the new style crosses...

The real powers that run Italy in front of the castle...

More of Italy...
