Atlantis Resort

Atlantis is a very large resort. It consists of what could've been about 5 hotels spread over a large area with a water theme park between all the towers. It most closely resembles a Vegas-style theme resort, but it seems to have gone a little further with its theme than even most Vegas resorts would have. And its very crowded!

Nevertheless, its a fun place if you're in the right frame of mind. Think about a Disney-land sort of place, because this is the sort of attraction you're dealing with. You will be staying in a nice resort, though not as nice as it should be for the cost. You'll be eating decent food, but not gourmet food, even though you are charged gourmet prices. Above all, there will be lots of lines to wait in, but there will also be lots of fabulous things to see and do. In short, this is a place to go with small kids for a family vacation. The kids will have a ball, and mom and dad get to live vicariously on their pleasure.

Frankly, I was so ready for this by this time in the trip that none of the foibles of the experience phased me. I'd been away from family and home for a little over three weeks, and I was really missing them. For me, this was perfect timing to meet up with them again and all have some fun together. In fact, I was so excited about doing things with them that I wound up cancelling all of my scuba diving in the Bahamas. You know Bob is distracted when he decides not to scuba dive at all!

This is a good view of the two main towers of the resort complex, the so-called "Royal Towers". There's almost nothing in these buildings but rooms, however, they are supposed to be the nicest rooms. In fact, the bridge that connects the two structures is a 10 room suite that rents for $25,000 a night. We didn't get a chance to stay there on this trip...

Panning left, we get to the rooftop of the the start of the casino and restaurant complex linking the Royal towers to the rest of the complex. We standing out by the beach as I take these pictures.

Further left is the rest of the casino. Despite the apparent size of the casino, it occupies a much smaller percentage of the complex than a similar Vegas hotel would use. I rather liked that. It seemed more in proportion.

And even further left is the Coral Towers, where we stayed. Apparently, this was once a Merv Griffin hotel. I actually think it is the best place to stay from a standpoint of proximity to what you want to do, although the rooms are not as nice as the Royal Towers.

While we were here, they were full to capacity, and we looked into upgrading rooms but they could not accomodate us.

The Atlantis grounds are really pretty...

Adjacent is a Mega-Yacht Basin...

Steve wanted this one!
